In the biggest case ever brought against the Chicago Outfit, the Feds indict 18 people on charges ranging from murder, racketeering, money laudering and other mob crimes.

This case has been bubbling for months, especially since it was disclosed a while back that Nicholas W. Calabrese, brother to one of the captains in the Outfit, had become a witness for the Feds, a rarity here in the Chicago area. His nephew also helped the FBI, wearing a wire to capture conversations in prison with Frank Calabrese, who was head of a crew in the Western Suburbs.
The best know crime in the indictment is the murder of Tony "The Ant" Spilatro and his brother Michael in 1986. The crime was part of the climax in the movie "Casino," where Joe Pesci played The Ant.
This is excellent news. For decades, Chicago-area law enforcement have been unable (or have not wanted) to stop the mob. Now, with this indictment today, hopefully we will see the end of The Outfit as we know it in Chicago.
