Ummm... yeah. Where is our collective mind as an opposition party? I understand compromise, and am open to discussion and tactics for protecting American interests (militarily, socially and economically). However, I do not abide by the word play the GOP has used against us, to the extent of convincing the DLC that antiwar Liberals are anti-fight-terrorism, and I am afraid of such verbal attacks from our own base.
My open letter below the fold...
"A Civil War?"
Damn. Way to really bring antiwar folk myself into a discussion. Especially when that discussion begins with such wonderful sentiments and historical nightmares as the term "civil war."
You're doing a disservice not only to your own party by trying to marginalize the liberal side of our party (and mind you, the GOP seems to have NO problem catering to the fundamentalism of the Christian Coalition), but you also make yourselves look like the same war mongers of the Bush, Dick, Wolfowitz team.
War is inevitable. This fateful entropy is mainly due to our human fallibility. And, sometimes, another people/race/religion/politik will just want to fight (probably because either they have so much hate in their hearts, or have been oppressed to their wit's end, in which case, it'd be a revolution... remember our own war against oppression?).
So, which is it? You want to "fight" this little "civil war"? Well, then, which are you? The oppressor, or the oppressed? Does the left-wing of peace and justice frighten you to no end? Are you totally incapable of understanding that knowledge is power and by simply educating the indoctrinated masses with TRUTH, then we can eliminate wars that, in the truest words of G'nR, "Feed the rich, while [we] bury the poor."
With open arms,
Rick Pickett
