I am sure everyone is familiar with the big scare that happened Wednesday afternoon in Washington. The "enemy aircraft" that was first reported to be on course for our nation's capital turned out to be a Cessna with an errant flight plan. But... even though this incident turned out to be nothing more than a fire drill, we can certainly look at the situation in an effort to learn a few things...
So what was our President doing when this emergency was going down? He was out riding his bike (insert training wheels joke here).
When was the President informed of the situation? According to an MSNBC article which quotes Scott McClellan, the President was informed approximately 50 minutes after the situation first developed.
More questions after the fold...
If the President didn't find out for almost an hour, who would have given the order to shoot the plane down if the situation so required?
Why was the President not told immediately? Did the Powers that Be not want to worry him? Was he too busy riding his bike off some sweet jumps?
Sarcasm aside... There has long been speculation the our President isn't calling the shots. Today's mini crisis adds more fuel to that fire. Why is the Commander in Chief the last to know?
