Update: The religous bullying scandal at the Air Force Academy is reaching into the football program.
The Academy forced head coach Fisher DeBerry to take down a banner that reads "Team Jesus Christ." The football team is also under scrutiny for the rape scandal.
Ken Salazar isn't ruling out a run at Governor, and the GOP is scared stiff.
Put that in your Pat Waak and smoke it.
Qwest lobbyist Jeff Garrett died Saturday while hunting. Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallerio says the death is suspicious, but didn't think Garrett's hunting partners were suspects.
See, THIS pisses me off. "Protesters" are against Denver's policy on illegal immigrants--that is, not acting for the INS. Littwin explains why these people are morons, if you still need explanation. Now, 5000 people can show up against the war and the Denver media covers it not at all, in fact, I have never seen this few people at an anti-war demonstration in Boulder. But a dozen nutjobs who think Tom Tancredo is Thomas Jefferson get all the coverage:
WHAT DO WE WANT?!? JOBS AT TACO BELL! WHEN DO WE WANT THEM?!? NOW!
Colorado Springs is on board with the Tancredo yowl, however.
Meanwhile, INS only picks up about 10% of immigrants held in US jails. The rest are left for local governments to deal with.
The Rockies are killing LoDo businesses. Attendance has fallen from 55,000 a game to 25,000 a game in the last 7 years, taking many of the bars and nightclubs in lodo with it.
Ward Churchill, after months of claiming he would not respond to allegations about his ethnicity, did just that yesterday, showing genealogy developed by the Cherokee that support his claim to be a Native American and addressing other charges of plagiarism.
CU is seeking input from staff and alumni concerning the move of the President's office to Denver. Evidently, Hank Brown wants to be closer to the capitol. Ralph's not a Navy man, but when the admiral transfers to a different ship doesn't that become the flagship? Just askin'.
It's near fire season again and Summit County is reminding mountain homeowners to thin trees and brush near their homes. It's a good reminder for everybody. In fact, piss Tom Tancredo off and hire some illegal aliens to do the work (just kidding.)
Starting July 1, persons convicted of providing alcohol to minors may have their drivers license revoked, if Gov. Owens signs a recently passed bill. I'm not sure that will withstand a court challenge, but for the meantime forewarned is forearmed.
Greg Walcher is running against John Salazar in the 3rd. It was hard enough when people on the Western Slope didn't think he was on drugs, but if he thinks he can beat the incumbent Salazar, they are left with no alternative.
Spouting Rock Falls near Glenwood.
Boulder is bracing for West Nile again. Remember, horses can be inoculated against West Nile and CSU is working on a human vaccine.
Boulder schools are becoming increasingly segregated. This is really the fault of No Child Left Behind, as the children of highly educated Boulder Whites are the first to be removed from failing schools like Sanchez and Lafayette, filling the limited slots in better schools and leaving Latino/a parents nowhere to turn.
Given the spate of alcohol related deaths in Colorado last year, this is interesting: Kudzu, the vine that grows across the South, may speed up the effects of alcohol, making you feel drunk faster. A Harvard researcher finds that people who take Kudzu consume less alcohol. Of course, feeling drunk faster is not necessarily an effect that the Universities want and may lead to problems of drunken driving and date rape, but the net benefit would be fewer (very rare) alcohol related deaths. Keep working, guys.
Rollinsville's Jane Poitras was part of a team that went to help in Aceh following the Tsunami, the Ned Mountain Ear has the story. Rollinsville...those hippies make great pizza, I wonder if they are still making that pizza in Rollinsville.
Rollinsville, 1944.
The Chieftain has a profile of PFC. Travis Anderson, the San Luis Valley native who was killed last week in Iraq.
Wayne Allard chalks up more funds for the Pueblo Chemical Depot cleanup. Good work, Senator, now, about those armored HUMMV's for the troops and veteran's benefits. Bad, bad, Senator.
This guy is getting fired for drinking crappy beer. Of course, he works for a different company that sells crappy beer. Lesson: Life is too short to drink crappy beer. It's also too short to go through life drunk, fat and stupid, son.
Democrats are seeking answers about the religious climate at the Air Force Academy, where reports of religious bullying have reached a fever pitch. Meanwhile, the military continues to try to intimidate rape victims at the Air Force Academy. Women should avoid signing up for the Air Force until they straighten out their house.
5280's Kat Valentine (very sexy name) says the Modern Drunkard ball in Denver was a flop. Maybe you showed up too sober, Kat, these people know how to pace themselves. Marky Ramone and Slim Cessna's Auto Club were there, how bad could it be?
Grand Junction lawmakers, including Bernie Buescher (D-Grand Junction), discussed the Colorado budget at a recent meeting of the League of Women Voters. Sen. Ron Teck (R) agreed with Buescher's assessment that the fix was necessary, while Josh Penry (R) said it wasn't going to pass. Penry, meanwhile, continued to whine about the lack of funding for higher education. Please run against John Salazar, Josh, because US House Republicans will love your Borrow-and-Spend ideas.
Twenty scholarships from the beef industry are available to young scholars in Colorado.
Yikes. My God doesn't give a crap what your citizenship is.
Dogs in Vail are helping kids read. I don't know if it works but if it does, get your kid a greyhound and they'll be speed readers.
According to the CS Gazette, it's a bad year for Black Death. What's a GOOD YEAR for the Black Death?
Anyway, I hope these two former Colorado residents catch it, at least a mild form of it. They are accused of bilking investors and running off to Costa Rica.
