I'm fascinated by the use of semantics in propaganda. I've been noticing the insistent use by the MSM of the term Iraqi
insurgents.
Now, any report that mentions "insurgents" instantly gets my wary eye.
I started searching for news stories that use the word resistance instead of insurgents to see what I'd find.
Search: Iraqi +resistance -insurgents
instead of: Iraqi insurgents
Well, wouldn't you know I started to find more balanced, detailed and believable accounts of the mess o potamia debacle. A look at the actual meaning of the words in this context is illuminating.
in·sur·gent
1 : a person who rises in revolt against civil authority or an established government; especially : one not recognized as a belligerent
2 : one that acts contrary to the established leadership (as of a political party, union, or corporation) or its decisions and policies
re·sis·tance
- The act or an instance of resisting or the capacity to resist.
- A force that tends to oppose or retard motion.
- An underground organization engaged in a struggle for national liberation in a country under military or totalitarian occupation.
It appears that two opposing world views are competing here, and that the difference is the perception of the legitimacy of the power in Iraq.
I think most will agree that the government in Iraq is unlikely to be seen as "established" by Iraqis, but would naturally be considered so by the puppetmasters.
This insistence on using the word insurgents in news reports serves only to prop up the false view that the government in Iraq is established.
Those of you with critical thinking skills might be able to guess which word more suits the actual situation, and this might give us direction to find which stories are ignorant of the truth, and which ones have a balanced and more accurate perspective.
Unfortunately almost all of the western MSM insists on using insurgents. The image of the Iraqi people as a resistance force is rarely spoken in such terms.
I invite all of you to search Google news, or Yahoo news for: Iraqi +resistance -insurgents.
Also, next time you see the word "insurgents" please be reminded of the effect of this word in characterizing the Iraqi people involved in this struggle.
My heart goes out to all Iraqi families, american soldiers and other innocents who were lied to and then killed.
I'm shocked and awed. Finally. Mission Accomplished.
