The large amount of terrorist camps in Northern Iraq are allowing groups like the PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party in Turkey) to smuggle arms and explosive into Turkey. In Catherine Collins' May 18th article in the Chicago Tribune she states, "Turkey has complained repeatedly over the last year that U.S. has ignored the presence of PKK camps in Northern Iraq." We are essentially causing more damage in the "War on Terrorism". The situation in Turkey is an accurate summation, symbol, whatever of the damage the administration has caused. More below...
In 2000 the PKK claimed it would only use political means to achieve the goal of improved rights for Kurds. Last year the truce ended and the terrorists from Northern Iraq are now creating the warlike atmosphere representative of a decade ago. According to Collins, "The terrorists coming from Northern Iraq are bringing large amounts of C-4 [plastic] explosives," Buyakanit(commander of Turkey's land force) said.
The administration creates policies, creates wars which they feel exemplify this idea of freedom they have. What freedom is this? Who is it for? Hell, maybe this is all just Newsweek's fault.
