Two of the three Canadian opposition parties, the Conservatives and the Bloc Quebecois, failed to bring down the Canadian government after voting against a budget amendment (Bill C-48) proposed by the New Democratic Party. Chuck Cadman, an Independent whose intentions were only made known when he stood up to vote "yea" in the house caused a tie vote in the house.
Yea indeed!
As a result of the 152-152 tie, the Speaker of the House cast the tie breaker which supported the government in power.

The minority government, led by the Liberals, will continue to rule until at least December, 2005, when they have guaranteed they will call the next election for January, 2006.
