Both Democratic candidates for Gov in NV,
state Sen Dina Titus and Assembly Speaker Richard Perkins, gained considerably against Republican Rep Jim Gibbons, according to a
recently published poll.
Compared with a poll released by Gibbons' own campaign one month ago, this new non-partisan (though methodologically conservative leaning) poll by Mason-Dixon for the Las Vegas Review Journal shows Gibbons under 50 % and barely outside the margin of error against both Titus and Perkins (both of whom have much lower name ID than Gibbons).
Even more interestingly this poll shows Titus leading Perkins by over 2-1 among registered Democrats (31-15).
Another widely circulated, though unpublished, poll by a republican firm not affiliated with any candidate in the race, shows Gibbons and Titus statistically even statewide -- AND in Gibbons' own CD.
All of these suggest that Gibbons' attempt to establish himself as an "inevitable" winner have failed, and as both Democrats, who cannot raise money or campaign while the state gov is in session until July, raise money and recognition, there will be a horse-race in this important swing state in 2006.
