Aloha to the dKos `ohana. I received a donation request letter for Kent Conrad from his good friend Tom Daschle today. The letter opens with this:
It begins when the President of the United States decides to target one of the highest-ranking Democrats in the United States Senate for electoral defeat.
The White House hand-picks the Republican candidate. Then millions of dollars begin to gush into that Republican's campaign.
I know I received this letter because I contributed to Daschle in the hope of staving off the Thune goons, but
because I live here in the Further South of Hawai`i, I know nothing about Senator Conrad's situation.
Mr. Daschle's letter goes on to note that bu--sh-- inc. is particularly intent on unseating Conrad because of the Senator's challenging bu--sh-- on the Social Security issue. It further asserts that
President Bush is personally recruiting North Dakota's Republican Governor, John Hoeven, to oppose Kent. Hoeven has already been courted with overnight stays at the White House and trips aboard Air Force One.
But the biggest perk is yet to come. If Hoeven runs, as political observers expect he will, the White House will place at his disposal absolutely as much money as he can find a way to spend.
I bow to the collective knowledge and expertise of the dKos family. If anyone here can expand on the level of this threat to Senator Conrad, I would be most appreciative of any further enlightenment. Any North Dakota dKos friends up at this time of night who might be able to help me? Mahalo for any insight you can provide.
