I absolutely want to call the Republicans out on this issue. Why won't they support John Kerry's "Kids come first" act that he has proposed?
Mr. KERRY (for himself, Mr. KENNEDY, Mrs. MURRAY, Mr. LAUTENBERG, Mr. CORZINE, and Ms. CANTWELL) introduced the Kids Come First Act to amend titles XIX and XXI of the Social Security Act to ensure that every uninsured child in America has health insurance coverage, and for other purposes.
I would like nationally funded health insurance for all. It is not going to happen right now. The Republicans are in power and they don't want it.
But how can the Republicans say "No" to the children?
I realize that Kerry may not get this bill passed. This year. Maybe not even in 2006.
But at least he is speaking out for the children of this country. We need to show the public that leaders in the Democratic Party do have ideas to make this country stronger and better!!
We cannot be only obstructionists. We need to shout out what we are for. We cannot give up just because the Republicans are in power. Yes, it makes our task more difficult. But if Demoratic leaders do not come up with the plans, the Republicans will. And you know damn well we are not going to like those plans.
So, if you have not taken the time yet to be a citizen co-sponsor for the "Kids come first", please do. Here is a link.

If you have negative feelings for Kerry, please do hold those feelings against the kids. Children cannot get jobs with health insurance. They are at the mercy of the family they are born into.
Not all of us come from money. I am lucky that my parents could afford health insurance for me growing up. But being able to receive health care should not be about luck.
I write to my Senators and Congressman a lot. I am sure they are tired of me. I can imagine some intern opening another email saying "That fucking lady is writing again. Doesn't she know we are Republican?"
Don't give up. Be annoying. We are not being represented well by our elected officials. We need to support the leaders who are trying to do something right. And I don't mean Right.
