THREE SECTIONS - I, II, III.
I believe that the State and National party should provide the following infrastructure for local organizations. They've spent billions in the last decade for losing elections, and only a little bit went at the last minute to pathetic "grassroots" efforts whose main purpose was to doorbell, phone bank and snail mail to get money to have billions to spend.
I. GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MANAGEMENT
A. Who is a Member?
Do they want email? Snailmail?
Member general info ( precinct, legislative district, etc)
B. Finances:
When are their dues do?
When did they contribute?
What did they contribute?
Reporting to state / local public disclosure commissions (as they are called in WA.)
C. General Communications:
Email lists
Discussion forums (a la yahoo news groups?)
Blogs (if not like dailykos, then don't bother )
Mailing labels for snail mail
II. MORE SOPHISTICATED ORGANIZATION
A. Local lists Tied to DNC / State voter files?
1. This is where the grand datawarehouse stuff goes. I read in the Washington Post in the summer of 2004 that the Democratic National Committee has a database of 170 million names with 300 attributes.
a. I did database support for management and SEC reporting at Microsoft for 3 years - datawarehouses are great black holes for staff salaries and people playing around. They all aren't a waste of time - but, a lot of time is wasted by a lot of people on these things. I am staying out of this one unless there is 150k up
front for 6 months work, for me.
