There's nothing funny about Memorial Day, especially not in a time of war. (So no smart ass today.)
Not President. But Presidential.
This photo has appeared on Kos from time to time since it was first taken last fall.
Kerry knows war and he was the one person charged with two tasks. One, to be a symbol that America didn't really want George Bush's senseless wars. Two, to gently bring America back to sanity. We, his country, failed him in respect to his tasks.
While there is nothing funny about Memorial Day, there is irony. Deep, unpleasant and irksome irony.
Today is in memory of all those lost in wars of failed politicians and the greedy. In memory of the tens of millions lost in past wars. And in memory of the thousands of Americans killed and injured fighting for George Bush's war. And in memory of the hundreds of thousands of civilians - Iraqi and otherwise - caught in the crossfire of wars present and past.
There's nothing funny about war. So fuck it.
