Big Ed talks frequently about how much he loves to go fishing. Apparently, he enjoys getting fished, too, to judge from comments he made about Howard Dean today in Seattle.
I give him credit for having the brass to spew this stuff in front of one of the most Deaniac crowds he'll encounter on his book tour this summer. Everybody in the hall wanted to love him, but you could have heard a pin drop when Ed - and there's no better way to put this - went off on Governor Dean.
More below.
First, Schultz cited the Biden/MSM spin on Dean's shot at the silver-spoon GOP establishment, and lectured us on how offended 'folks in red states from Nebraska all the way down to Texas' were to be told that they had never worked a day in their lives. Of course, Dean never said that, as we all know here. But Big Ed had his knickers in a twist with him for the MSM's mischaracterization of what was actually said!
Then things got weird when Schultz asserted that Dean's justifiably vaunted fundraising skills were overrated. Even though Dean is way ahead of the game relative to previous Dem fundraising efforts, Big Ed says, 'not good enough!' The Repugs are still out raising us, he says. Of course, the Repugs nearly always do out raise us for reasons that should be obvious. But Governor Dean is only working minor miracles. Not good enough for the man from Larchmont, VA!
I listen to Big Ed frequently and I give him mad props for creating a successful, left-of-center talk show, which, by the way, is going into even wider syndication this summer. It's hard to understand why he is so full of vitriol on the subject of Howard Dean. He should, at least, get his facts straight.
