That "D" next to Biden's name is starting to look shaky. Sirota
goes for the juggular:
Sen. Joe Biden (D) is continuing his
self-serving, arrogant and conceited attack on DNC Chairman Howard Dean, this time telling Don Imus that "The Democratic chairman does not speak for me, an elected United States senator. No party official speaks for me anytime, anyplace, under any circumstances. And I think the rhetoric is counter-productive."
All good Democrats and progressives should make a deal with Biden: he can continue stabbing his own party in the back with impunity for his own self-promotion, and say his party doesn't speak for him. In exchange, Biden should agree to never, ever claim to speak for Democrats.
Biden still dreams of the Oval Office. But the bitter, bitter senator from MBNA will never be more than a guest in the White House.
If Biden had helped Democrats win an election or two, then I might be inclined to view his remarks with some charity. But alas, Biden has been part of the problem -- a class of Democrats so comfortable with the (still considerable) perks and benefits of being in the minority that anything that threatens their little world is met with contempt, fear and anger. People like Biden don't care about winning, about being in the majority. They care only about the status quo.
