I recently moved to Chicago, IL from Jacksonville, FL.
While I miss Jacksonville, even more so after reading over JoeMar , I do have some qualms with it. Minorities in America still face overwhelming obstacles in succeeding. They face predatory lending, racial profiling, and flat out racism. When I see a city like Jacksonville, FL, which I do not consider a "southern" city, it is disheartening that racism that is still present.
At a Jaguar (NFL) game last year, a man sitting a few rows in front of us yelled at an Arabic man sitting in our row to "go back to Afghanistan". The young man said, "It's okay, he has been drinking." No city will ever be perfect, of course I know that, but I have seen an openness in Chicago that is inspiring. I am not certain what policy, or how much you can force a society to change, but don't we feel it has been long enough to simply let it run its course?
The Mississippi murder case, which is reported here, has a deadlocked jury.
I guess the reason I point this out is because sometimes I forget that this still exists. We all need a little reminder every once in a while of how we all have to constantly strive for change. God knows I need to be reminded of this constantly.
Enough ranting, again, make sure to check out this and check back here, for more later.
