Illinois media is hitting the Durbin apology hard and heavy.
In addition to Beemer's call to freep the Chicago Tribune poll, two more Illinois media polls are below the fold....
Poll #1
....As I was writing this diary they changed the poll question (must happen at 3pm central time).
The suburban Chicago Daily Herald has a poll on the right side of its homepage (near top-middle area).
It's too late to vote in the poll, but the question was completely misleading in that it asked something along the lines of "Do you think Sen Durbin should have apologized for comparing US interrogators to Nazis?"
I wrote to both the Daily Herald and NBC5-Chicago to indicate that I thought the question was highly misleading and loaded given that Sen Durbin did not compare our brave troops to Nazis but instead compared the torture tactics to those of past despotic regimes... Big difference!
You can write to them through the Channel 5 contact page (I chose the "Web Staff" and "News Comments" option).
And here are some appropriate email addys:
- Channel 5 TV survey chinews@nbc5.com?Subject=SURVEYDISCLAIMER
- Daily Herald Internet Department Manager Richard Battin, rbattin@dailyherald.com
(I'll update this if I get better email addresses to use.)
Poll #2
The Champaign-Urbana News Gazette/WDWS-AM Talk Radio poll is also online.
Again, on the right side of the homepage near the top middle.
Better wording for the question:
Do you accept Dick Durbin's apology regarding his comments about US Troops' treatment of prisoners at Gitmo?
Available answers are interesting:
- Yes (currently 20%)
- No (currently 35%)
- and, He didn't need to apologize (currently 44%)
I voted "Didn't need to apologize" which I believe to be true.
