There looks like there might be some very good news on the horizon for Ohio Democrats. I think that Sherrod Brown is going to take on Mike DeWine in 2006, and I have a few decent data points to support this conclusion.
If he makes the run, I move that we make him DKos's 'Patron Saint' like Barack Obama was in 2004. He and Ted Strickland are going to team up and take back Ohio from the disgustingly corrupt GOP machine.
Anyways here's why I think he's running:
- Sherrod Brown's website ( http://www.sherrodbrown.com ) is currently locked down. It was active just a few days ago. I'm guessing that it is being reworked for a Senate run.
- The Ohio GOP's almost complete collapse on ethics issues over the past 2-3 weeks has opened a window of opportunity so big that you could drive a battleship through it.
- DeWine's son lost the OH-2 primary badly in a district that was supposed to be a shoe-in for DeWine the younger. The GOP base is turning on DeWine for his part in the compromise.
- I have a few inside sources in the House that are saying that something is indeed up.
All these points plus the fact that GOP polling numbers are through the floor leads me to believe that Sherrod is going to do it.
I'll say it now: Team Ohio (Strickland & Brown) are going to kick some GOP ass and take some names (DeWine, Blackwell, Petro, Montgomery, and maybe Tiberi and LaTourette with them).
