I recall that there were many diaries a few months ago when the Congress passed a bill to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. On April 28th the House and Senate passed a joint budget resolution that allows for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. It was extremely disheartening. Our need for petroluem has become at too great of a cost. Our government and corporations can focus on alternative forms of energy as well as their distribution to the public.
- With Congress poised to vote this fall on whether to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling, a broad coalition of conservation, religious, and other organizations today officially launched Arctic Refuge Action, a summer-long national grassroots and media campaign to protect the Arctic Refuge. The nationwide effort will integrate public events, advertising, and grassroots organizing to amplify the voices of the majority of Americans who oppose drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The fight is not over. We cannot give up on this issue. They may like to coin the phrase "environmentalism is dead" but I find this to be synonymous with the "The earth is dead. Let's make all the money we can from it while were here."
Here is a link where you can take action:

Using the budget process to destroy this wilderness area is absolutely unacceptable. There is a vote on a Budget Reconciliation Package in September and we can pressure our Senators and Congressman to not include drilling of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in this bill.
Drilling in this pristine wilderness that is a habitat for polar bear, caribou, and millions of migratory birds is not going to reduce our prices at the pump. But the damn Republicans cannot think outside of the oil drilling box. Oil. Oil. Oil. They are so intertwined with the oil companies that they are truly selling our souls.
Republicans insist on the oil obession. An expensive war is not enough for them. We must continue to fight to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. We need to write and call the people who represent us and let them know we do not want drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
