I don't know if anyone saw this today, but I keep my eye out for things like this and I feel I need to share it.
You may have read another of my diaries where broke down government propaganda a step at a time. You can find that diary here.
I am here to do it again.
Apparently, Rep Curt Weldon, R-Pa has a book coming out in which he makes some claims...
Let's first look at the headline...
In New Book, Weldon Says He Had Secret Terrorism Source Before Sept. 11
Hmmmm... Well that is certainly designed to grab your attention....
(More Below)
Let's see where this goes...
Rep. Curt Weldon, R-Pa., knew the United States was a terrorist target before the Sept. 11 attacks because of a secret source -- "Ali" -- but the CIA refused to listen, the congressman writes in a new book.
Though the way this is written is supposed to leave you with the impression that this guy knew September 11th was coming, and that he was ignored, but that isn't the case.
He is just saying that he knew that America was the target of terrorists. Well no shit. Thank you captain obvious.
I'm from Oklahoma City. I know a thing or three about domestic terrorism. I know for instance that most of the time it's white people responsible for it and they are born and raised right here in the USA, but I digress.
Anyway, now that you're left with the impression that this guy knew about 9-11 beforehand(which he doesn't acutally claim) you should be filled with a sense of fear and urgency and want to know what else is coming down the pipe.
Let's keep going.
In "Countdown to Terror: The Top-Secret Information That Could Prevent the Next Terrorist Attack on America . . . and How the CIA Has Ignored It," Weldon details intelligence secrets "Ali" has provided and warns that Iran, not al Qaeda, is the United States' biggest enemy, according to the book's description on Amazon.com. The 256-page book, published by Regnery Publishing, will be released June 13.
Did you notice the pivot there? This story isn't about what he claims to have known before September 11th, despite the screaming headline. This guy wants people to know that Iran is coming to get us.
How does he know? "Ali" (Cough. Cough. A leak out of Emmanuel Goldstein's camp.) told him.
Next a vaugue hint about the bad things that will happen.
In the book, Weldon exposes warnings from his source that Iran will attack America next; that Iran, not al Qaeda, is actually the nexus of Islamic terrorism; and that Iran has an advanced nuclear program.
Man, does this playbook look familar or what? (IRAQ!)
Next, Weldon's bonafides must be established.
Weldon is vice chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee and chairman of the House Armed Services Committee's Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces. He has been outspoken about the federal government's lack of attention to terrorism before the Sept. 11 attacks.
Well, we have to beleive this guy, right? I mean if he's on those committees, then that explains why "Ali" tells him all of this, right?
Don't buy into this crap people. We're smarter than this. This a play out of the Goebbels book. These guys love Goebbels' propaganda techniques.
It should also be noted, like a lot of the propaganda that is put into the public's mind, this story was of course linked by Drudge.
Here's a link to the acutal story.
Also, while I have your attention, I would like to recommned a 3 part documentary dealing with the propaganda that is all around us. It's called The Power of Nightmares: The Rise of the Politics of Fear. It was produced by BBC 2.
You can't buy it anywhere, but apparently if you look, it's available through bit torrent. Find it and watch it. It's amazing.
