Fact: A majority of the people on the planet are female.
Fact: A majority of the people in the United States are female.
Fact: A majority of registered Democrats are female.
Fact: The majority of people on the planet - female - have longer life spans than the other gender and thus will stick around longer to feel the effects of public policy.
Given the above facts, I have two questions:
1. Why are issues pertaining to the majority of people on the planet, in this country and in our party given a "special interest" label of "women's issues?"
2. What are "men's issues" as opposed to "women's issues?"
This is not meant as a rehash question of the pie wars. This is meant as a genuine inquiry and starting point to discuss people's views, the language that has come into common usage and how it colors Democratic Party policy and public decision-making.
If these questions don't seem helpful in the current climate - if they provoke a lot of rehashing of crap and the feeling that it's wasting precious diary space to discuss this, I'm perfectly willing to take it down without any hard feelings.
