Before all diary entries cry out for the falling sky around O'Connor's retirement, thought I'd try to slip this into the Diary Chain.
Mostly just a link to a CNN article (brief, news-lite, but there in a sea of stories about dumb celebrities, etc.), and also to continue following a story that is quietly humming in the background.
Just to remind everyone, this is about "renditions" of US captives to other countries with fewer legal ramifications for torturing suspects.
My favorite line from the CNN article:
"The sources said that is routine in such cases, known as "renditions." American and Italian officials agreed that if the matter ever became public, the CIA and Italian intelligence would decline comment, or deny knowledge, the sources said."
I can see Jon Stewart's reaction now: "Wha?!"
Yes, folks. "Hey, we didn't do anything, but we had it ok'd with the Italians before we didn't do it, and when it didn't happen, we all agreed to deny that we knew anything about what wasn't going to happen anyway."
