As much as we're all getting caught up in the Karl Rove story, let's remember what this is really about: treason. George W. Bush got caught lying to the American people in his State of the Union message about Iraq's nuclear weapons program. This was one of his major reasons for attacking a country which posed no direct and immediate threat to our national security.
All the rest of this is the fallout from those infamous words. Therefore, as tempting as it is to try and hang Rove, let's not stray from the most important part of the scandal. All this talk about Rove is deflecting the discussion away from President Bush and his lies.
This White House chose to engage in a smear campaign against Joe Wilson to deflect attention from the issue of the yellow cake in Niger. Let's remember this is the REAL issue here. Bush sent this nation to war under false pretenses, and, when caught, put their own political security ahead of national security.
In fact, they were so eager to sacrifice America's homeland security the most senior officials in the White House never even thought to check if she was undercover at the CIA before outing her to the press. This shear disregard for the country's safety is the real story here.
