I don't like to beat a dead horse, but the most important thing that we can do right nwo is to email Senators and Bush about the SCOTUS nomination, and the sooner the better. While we're obviously not going to get a liberal, the more we can do to deter a truly noxious nominee, the better. There are some sample emails and contact forms below the fold, with the parts to personalize indicated. If you know someone in PA, make sure (s)he emails Specter, or either Senator in Maine, or Chafee in RI...
Dear Senator X,
I have deep respect for the way you have handled ISSUE X, and I hope that you will do the same regarding the replacement of Justice O'Connor's seat on the bench. I have faith that you will do your best to ensure that President Bush respects checks and balances by engaging in meaningful consultation with Senators from both parties before making a nomination. President Bush must choose a mainstream nominee who we Americans can trust to protect our individual rights and freedoms.
I trust that you will be willing to block a candidate who may divide our country when we so desperately need to be reunited. The state of X has returned you to the Senate because your constituents believe that you will use your position to bring moderation to the judiciary. Please don't let us down.
Sincerely,
Croatoan

Dear President Bush,
I optimistically recall your speeches during the 2000 campaign where you referred to yourself as a "uniter, not a divider." I have faith that you will follow through with this promise by engaging in meaningful consultation with Senators from both parties before making nominating a candidate to Justice O'Connor's seat on the Supreme Court. I hope that you choose a consensus candidate who we can trust to protect our individual rights and freedoms.
As I am sure you are aware, our divided country desperately needs to be reunited. The last thing which our country, or the highest court in the land needs, is a nominee who will spark acrimony and ill will across the country. A moderate justice will restore the country's faith in bipartisanship and the goodwill of this Presidency and this Congress. Please don't let us down.
Sincerely,
Croatoan
