Two points here:
- The president is still running around the country on the taxpayer's dime and presenting his canned speech to hand-picked adoring crowds.
- He's added his mother, who just turned 80, to the traveling road show. See below for her shtick, as described in today's NYT.
The Bush seniors still command respect from many people and Barbara is often seen as a strong figure who brooks no idiots (well, maybe just a few when they're in the family.)
But! She actually stood up at a staged event in Atlanta Georgia and said (after she said she was proud of her son, of course)
"I'm here because I'm worried about our 17 grandchildren, and so is my husband. They will get no Social Security."
I cannot believe the woman had the gall to say this. Worried about the twins because they will inherit millions of dollars? Without an estate tax. And the money the Carlye group is making on the backs of soldiers. The twins - do they work - and even pay into social security? Maybe that's the reason they won't get any.
She should have been booed off the stage. Disgusting.
