Just read the new Harper's magazine. August 2005, and the headline "None Dare Call It Stolen -- Ohio, the Election, and America's Servile Press" by Mark Crispin Miller.
Ah yes, nothing like scratching the old scabs off wounds that actually never healed, but just quit throbbing enough that we could be distracted by new outrages ....
The article describes much of what is contained in Conyers' "Preserving Democracy -- What Went Wrong in Ohio".
And upon reading it, I felt more angry than I have in a long long time.
When are we going to hold Blackwell accountable? Much of what he did was completely illegal. All of it was, at best, unethical.
Why is that skank from Florida who helped steal the 2000 election, still a free woman?
I won't recount what is said from Conyers' work. That can easily be looked up (although I would urge all to read it as well)
The quote I found most compelling from the entire article is this:
"The Framers could no more conceive of electoral fraud on such a scale than they could picture Fox News Channel or the Pentagon; and so we have no constitutional recourse, should it be proven, finally, that the wrong guy "won"".
(snip)
Those who say we should "move on" from that suspicious race and work instead on "bigger issues" -- like electoral reform -- are urging the impossible; for there has never been a greate reform that was not driven by some major scandal.
So what, folks, are we doing about exposing this fraud?
Why are we talking about Hillary in 2008? Why are we talking about anybody, any future elections?
I like keeping these things short, so I'll just end with this last quote from the article:
"In this nation's epic struggle on behalf of freedom, reason, and democracy, the press has unliterally disarmed -- and therefore many good Americans, both liberal and conservative, have lost faith in the promise of self-government. That vast surrender is demoralizing, certainly, but if we face it, and endeavor to reverse it, it will not prove fatal. This democracy can survive a plot to hijack an election. What it cannot survvive is our indifference to, or unawareness of, the evidence that such a plot has succeeded."
The plot did succeed. Two elections in a row have been stolen. Democracy is dead. Why are talking about anything BUT this?
