After a very tumultous Spring Session of Parliament that almost saw the overthrow of minority government of Paul Martin's Liberals, the party has rebounded in the polls and is on the cusp of a potential majoirty government.
If the Canadian national election were held today, 39% of decided voters would cast a ballot for a Liberal candidate. Only 24% of decided voters would vote for the main opposition party-the Conservatives led by Stephen Harper.

The latest Decima poll conducted July 14-17th, 2005 shows also shows that the New Democratic Party would gain 19% of decided voters.
In the key province of Quebec, support for the Liberals is rising though they trail the Bloc Quebecois by a very large 22 point margin. Quebec is key for the Liberals ability to gain a national majority in the House of Commons. The Sponsorship Scandal truly hurt them in Quebec.
Things contributing to the Liberals rise of the conclusion of the public testimony in the Gomery inquiry of the Sponsorship Scandal, contined economic strength, the new healthcare accord with the provinces. Martin has shown more leadership skills of late especially in shepherding through the budget and the controversial Civil Marriage Act which legalized gay marriage nationwide.
Prime Minister Paul Martin has promised to call a national election within 30 days of the release of the finding from the Gomery inquiry. This will likely hurt the Liberals but the Conservatives are not offering anattractive alternative because of their pratically Bush like stands on social issues like gay marriage and abortion.
