On July 15, the non-partisan, non-profit Presidential Prayer Team for Kids directed its young followers:
If you've been listening to the news lately, you know that the President has a big choice to make in the next several weeks. Since Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor retired from the Court, he now must choose someone to take her place. Pray that God will guide the President as he chooses a new judge for the Supreme Court, helping him select the person who will please God and rule justly.
The July 22
instructions suggest that God was pleased with Bush's selection:
By now you've probably heard that God has answered our prayers for the President and his choice for the Supreme Court. So it's a great time to give thanks to God for helping President Bush choose a new person to serve on our country's Supreme Court--Judge John Roberts. Pray also for Judge Roberts as he gets ready to be confirmed by the Senate Judiciary Committee. Pray that the process will be orderly and well-mannered as President Bush has asked.
Mom and Dad receive their own prayer advice at the adult Presidential Prayer Team site:
Give thanks for President Bush's decision to nominate Judge John G. Roberts to the U.S. Supreme Court, asking God to guide and bless Chair Arlen Specter and the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee as they begin hearings in late August or early September. Ask God to lead them into His will for the Court and our nation. Give thanks for the speedy developments in the nominating process and pray the confirmation will be dignified and orderly as President Bush has requested.
Mom and Dad also have an opportunity to answer a related non-partisan poll question:
In addition to weekly prayer points, children are treated to non-partisan fun facts to know and tell regarding one of the administration leaders. This week features the Secretary of Defense. I'm pleased the prayer team understands why we went to war in Iraq!
Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld is a great person to lead America's Defense Department... Secretary Rumsfeld came to the Defense Department four years ago after a great career in business...
As Secretary of Defense, Mr. Rumsfeld is responsible for directing the actions of his department in response to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 including our efforts in Iraq.
