I am putting this up to stop the "Bush gave the finger" nonsense. The
video is here. Unfortunately,
several diaries and the whole blogosphere are taking off on Bush and it is wrong.
Still by STOP George
The thing that sticks up, labelled "finger" by STOP George is actually a rolled-up piece of white paper. Picture it like the Statue of Liberty torch. Paper is white, flesh is pink. And not even George Bush is dumb enough to shoot a bird backwards over his shoulder. And in front of photographers.
If you keep watching the video you will see the flash of white in his hand.
Let's not be writing to the FCC, LTE, and all the rest please. Jay Leno didn't say what it was, and he was right not to. It got a good laugh. Let's not get hooked into going way overboard.
yes, this is "just my opinion", but I am trained in the anatomy (and color) of the hand, and I am not blinded by, shall we say, bias.
Even by the next day, the media can't figure it out . Here is head-scratching from
WaPo:
Still, none of the journalists on the scene Wednesday reported seeing Bush make a rude gesture. Ken Herman, the Cox News Service correspondent representing other print reporters at the time, did not mention it in his pool report and said by telephone yesterday that he did not see the moment in question. "I think the video is inconclusive but leaning toward thumb," he said after examining the footage. "It's just hard to imagine."footage. "It's just hard to imagine."
They have eyes, but yet they see not.
