stage the 2012 Olympic Games.
Moscow went out in the first round of voting, New York in the second and Madrid in the third. I can't help but think, after hearing the video clip of Mr. Bush telling the IOC how he supports the bid and the US Congress supports the bid in his lame, stilted way, that he did more harm than good.
I wonder whether a different president and different foreign policy - i.e., one that didn't alienate the whole world - would have boded better for New York. Actually, I don't wonder. I'm sure of it.
Ah well. Gives me an excuse to get back to London in a few years.
