The US-British (and some would say Polish) invasion of Iraq in 2003 has been the center of considerable controversy and skepticism, much of it coming from France, Germany and Russia.
With an unsafe situation on the ground, nearly 2000 allied dead, 25K-100K Iraqi dead, many have wondered if the French were right.
Fortunately, all doubts were laid to rest Wednesday when London narrowly defeated Paris to host the Olympics in 2012 thereby demonstrating finally that the Iraq War was the correct course of action.
The situation appeared to worsen when
gunmen ambushed the senior Bahraini and Pakistani diplomats in separate attacks as they drove through Baghdad yesterday, spurring Pakistan to announce the withdrawal of its ambassador from Iraq.
"Many people do reckon that London is the greatest city in the whole world at the moment," an exultant Blair said, however, after the vote proved him right on the Iraq War.
Some were questioning the stability of the new government when Dhari al-Fayadh - a Shia who was Iraq's oldest MP - died with his son and three bodyguards after the car bomb hit their convoy in northern Baghdad.
"It's hard ... It's a great disappointment, a great emptiness around us all," French sports minister Jean-Francois Lamour told reporters in Singapore, reflecting upon how his nation had finally been humiliated and proven wrong in all aspects of the Iraq War.
Get on board and join the winning team, everyone! The Iraq War is, was and always will be right now that London has the Olympics! Go USA!
