What does Cindy want?
She wants an honest answer to a simple question: What is the noble cause that her son died for?
I've seen discussions here about the pros and cons of who should go to Crawford to stand with her. Some, who really should or would like to go, can't. And others who go run the risk of muddying the very concise message that she bears.
So I've been thinking about this.
Join me on the flip if you will, to hear more.
We know that there are millions of people who want to hear Bush answer Cindy's question. Truthfully. And let's face it, we also know that this is a question he can't answer. Truthfully.
We see that the other side has taken to attacking Cindy and her family personally in an effort to shut her up. Because it puts them in an uncomfortable position.
We know that many of the people who want the answer to her question are not Gold Star mothers like Cindy, but their anger over this war and the administration that drove the nation to war, is as just and as white hot as Cindy's.
So the question to me seemed to be how do we show Cindy just how many of us are with her? How do we show the world?
How do we show the administration, the RW noise machine and ordinary people around the world that we stand with her figuratively, if not literally, in demanding that George Bush answer honestly a single question: What is the noble cause that her son died for?
I remembered that during WWII Jews were forced to wear a yellow Star of David to designate them as "the other"; to separate them from the general population. It worked.
It worked until the King of Denmark (I think correct me if I am wrong) declared that he too would wear one. By doing, in a small way, he took away their power to separate and to kill.
So, in a twist on that, at a time when the right is desperately trying to isolate Cindy, from her husband and family, her dead son, her religion and her fellow Americans, I think it would be a powerful message if we all "became" Cindy Sheehans.
Imagine millions of people around the world wearing buttons that simply said "I am Cindy".
In only a short space of time everyone would understand exactly what it meant: ANSWER THE QUESTION. WE ARE TIRED OF THE LIES.
It doesn't matter if you are male or female, young or old, black or white, ordinary citizen or politician. We are all Cindys.
We all want to hear Bush answer a simple question:
What is the noble cause that her son died for?
I am Cindy.
