...re: the September 11th Exploitation March in Washington:
Dear Mr. Jones,
As a frequent Washington Post reader, a friend of one of your retired top columnists now a best-selling author, and a sometimes practitioner of television journalism myself, I implore you to see the light and withdraw all the Post's support for the Washington March on Sept. 11th.
(read the rest of the letter below)
You are a news organization. You COVER stories about the Pentagon and the DOD. How can you ever expect to be taken seriously again as a news source if you, hand in hand with the Defense Department, sponsor a blatantly pro-war exercise in questionable taste?
Through the blogosphere and other, less-partisan members of the MSM, I have been in contact with and read the words of dozens of September 11th families and survivors. To a man and woman, they are stunned and appalled that the DOD would still, at this time, conduct an exercise that implicitly ties in September 11th with the illegal, immoral war in Iraq. They feel their dead loved ones are once again being sold and exploited for governmental purposes and the whims of those currently in political power. Their assessment, logically, lumps the Washington Post right in there with the other crass exploiters.
Should you continue on with this clearly unethical and shameful support, I and many others who once enjoyed your pages will have to conclude that you are no longer the bastion of relentless, truth-seeking journalism you were during Watergate and the days of Ben Bradlee. If you aren't willing to withdraw all your support for this obviously partisan exercise, you will be henceforth known among those who care about journalism as the Pentagon Post.
What a shame that would be, and what a loss for all of us.
Sincerely,
(hopesprings)
