Ok, this diary is really more about Al Gore.
I like Al Gore. He is a good man and would have made a good president. A number of people on DailyKos seem to like him so much they think he be the Democratic nominee in 2008. I am not one of those people.
Al Gore lost an election he should have won. Yes, technically he won, but with Republican cheating, the Democrat has to win by a wide margin to actually get elected. In any event, he was handed eight years of unprecedented peace and prosperity and pissed it away and lost to an illiterate cokehead. Al Gore lost because he was a shitty candidate and ran a shitty campaign. He did not lose because of Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton was the best thing Gore had going for him, and he ran away from it. The Monica fiasco simply did not matter. If Clinton had been permitted to run for a third term, he would have wiped out Bush or whoever the Republicans put up. When I listen to Clinton speak, I don't cringe the way I do when I listen to Gore or Kerry hoping that stupid words don't come out. If we are fantasizing about re-running prior nominees, we should take out the 22nd and nominate Bill Clinton again.
