announced that her district is getting over $300,000 worth of Homeland Security grants today.
The city of Evans received the largest amount, a grant of $100,628. The congresswoman's release doesn't state what each grant will be used for. However, the news release announcing the grants did note that fire departments could apply for one of three areas: operations and firefighter safety; and fire prevention programs, and vehicle acquisition.
The awards are part of legislation passed by Congress to make $650 million available across the country for direct assistance to firefighters.
Here's 100 large. Use it for what you want.
Don't get me wrong, nobody loves fire fighters more than me...well, maybe Bill in Portland Maine, but let's face it $100K isn't even going to buy a firetruck. And Evans Colorado is hardly a hotbed of terrorism.
This is pure pork and it's the reason we've got a $450 billion deficit (not counting the war in Iraq and Afghanistan--and what the hell is that? That's like saying I'm running a $500 deficit, not counting my mortage and car payment. You think the bank would buy that?)
Yeah, the US needs to spend on homeland security--buying bomb sniffing dogs on NY subways--NOT on uniforms for Eastern Colorado firefighters. Yes, our deficit is also caused by not having enough revenue--but it's also from stupid spending like this.
Thanks to Bartcop.
Can the media stop letting Bush have it both ways: "It's your money" while letting him go to New Mexico and boldly sign giveaways to the energy industry and going to Chicago to give away billions in highway dollars?
