Recently, a comprehensive story that appeared in the St. Petersburg Times (by its Latin America correspondent) about the problems arising from the incessant coverage of the Aruba disappearance story (in particular) and the Missing White Girl Syndrome (in general) was diaried by someone else here on Kos. For those who may not have read it, here is the link to the original story:

Now, the Columbia Journalism Review (CJR) printed an interview with the author of that article - he says that he's received more feedback than any other story that he has done, and 4/5 have been positive. In it the money quote is not about a missing white girl, but instead the missing boyfriend of a celebrity (in this case, Olivia Newton-John:
Last night I was watching Nancy Grace reporting on the pop singer whose boyfriend had gone missing in California -- Olivia Newton John -- and she had this poor guy who's the regular entertainment correspondent on, whose name I forget. And she says to him, "So what's going on, Jim?" And Jim says, "Well you know, Nancy, it's still a bit of a mystery." And she cuts him off and says, "Well, you're going to have to do better than that, Jim." You know, invent something. Speculate. Give me anything.
Such subtlety. The entire interview is at:
