Imagine flipping on the TV to get the day's news. You flip past channels you long ago abandoned for responsible news -- CNN, MSNBC, (you blocked FoxTV long ago) .. and with a smile on your face, you throw down your remote after reaching kosTV.
You know that for the entire time you're watching kosTV, you'll get the real scoop about what's happening in the world. And not through just some corporate filter, but from hundreds of diverse voices and opinions. News - liberal activism -- the arts -- science -- the possibilities are limitless.
The power of such an outlet would be astounding. Bringing the best aspects of dailyKos to a mass media audience could influence millions. Translating the ideas and power of the community here to TV would bring a new dimension to everything we've been working toward here. It would broaden our work, empowering our message and sharpening its focus it in a way you just can't do on the site.
I haven't been reading DK's reaction to Al Gore's recently unveiled currentTV, but I think it's off to an uneven start. The viewer pieces are good, but the channel and framework the producers put around it seem condescending, and I'd imagine the 20-somethings the channel is targeted toward can probably see right through the fakey "hey, we're hip" push. But I think it will evolve beyond trying to be "MTV meets Link meets video blogs" into something that its viewers can really call their own. I think it will eventually evolve into something much like kosTV would be if it existed.
kosTV wouldn't be geared just for hip 20 somethings like currentTV is. Its producers, contributors, and audience would be just like the site - from teenagers to octogenarians. It would be possibly the only place on TV where it would be the IDEAS that matter.
I'm sure ideas like this have been discussed previously, and I heard somewhere that a liberal TV network was being discussed or planned. But I'm convinced kosTV would be more than just a TV network. It would lead a revolution, just as dailyKos is leading an online revolution.
What would be the exact format? Would it operate in a currentTV model, or be more interactive and open? I look forward to reading your ideas.
kosTV could change the world.
