What's the nerdiest thing you've ever done?
Come on, guys, you're a bunch of nerds. Face it. And nerds like nothing better than to one-up each other, as in "I've been to more Star Trek conventions that you have!" Personally, I've only been to two. And I never dressed up for either; I wore a communicator button for one of them, but that's it. Yeah, I'll turn in my sci-fi nerd badge now.
Anyway, I'll go first.
Some of the nerdiest things I have ever done:
Well, there are several pretty nerdy things, actually.
1. I started a "Nerds for Howard Dean" personal bat site, but it's no longer up. I managed to raise about $800 dollars for the Dean campaign via the Nerd Bat. I posted this picture on the site (click to enlarge image):
Only the chemistry nerds will understand what the model was - it was the prototype for an enantioselective metallocene catalyst I was synthesizing. Never mind. It didn't work, and my boss was an asshole (not the cool kind of nerd, but the evil socially inept kind - you know, the sort who only bathed once a month).
- I met my husband in an online political (Dean) chat room (www.chatforamerica.com, which no longer exists).
- I was on TV, during a PBS fund drive, as part of a Doctor Who fan club. Hey, I was only 14, dammit. I have an excuse!
Ok, guys. It's your turn. Go on. Out-nerd each other.
Note: If you missed it, Addison posted a hilarious nerd diary the other night: If World War II was a chatroom RTS game.... Check it out.
