This is quite astounding to me: all but 10 states have a majority of their population supporting abortion rights. This includes states like Texas, where 43% of the population is prolife whereas 52% is prochoice. Ohio is 42% prolife/52% prochoice. Montana is 42% prolife/53% prochoice. By far, most of the most prolife states are in the South, but Georgia is 42% prolife/53% prochoice. In some traditionally conservative states, it is not even close: Arizona is 39% prolife, 56% prochoice.
An interesting dilemma: should the Dems demonize the GOP for being so anti-abortion, or minimize this issue in their rhetoric, emphasizing instead that they are the party for the masses, fight for protecting you in times of disaster, etc.? The problem, when you demonize something, it riles up the folks that are anti-abortion. It also suggests that your party is one-issue oriented.
Bottom line: from this data, I would bet a anti-religious right wave might be developing in this country. How do we ride it?
