Polls
Bush's poll numbers are low. I predict that
he will not be reelected.
There are a lot of polls about who is responsible
for Katrina or, more accurately, the slow
response to it. 65% of the folks in a Time
survey said Bush did fair or poor in response
to Katrina.
But I got to thinking about polls and the absurdities
associated therewith.
Here is some research which I have done on the topic.
I am not going to cite links here because I hate
typing but I assure you that I have not made any
of this up.
92% of Americans believe in God (that came from
Fox News. You can tell because only a
conservative organization would capitalize the
deity). Good luck at the Supreme Court Mr. Newdow.
85% believe in heaven (I am not sure where the
other 7% think God is. My own guess would be Maui.)
82% believe in miracles. This includes Red Sox fans.
71% believe in the devil. NeoComms would point
out that this is Bush's fault because the
number was 63% in 1997.
34% of Americans believe in ghosts. This will
go up as Halloween approaches.
34% also believe in UFO's. This could be the same
34% - I don't know.
25% believe in reincarnation. I am not sure how that
squares with the 85% who believe in heaven.
21% believe that folks can communicate with the dead.
37% of people believe in haunted houses. If this
goes up FNMA may require appraisers to check
a "haunted/not-haunted" box the next time
they revise the appraisal form.
80% of Americans believe in the separation of powers.
Less that half of that 80% could correctly identify
Congress, the president and the federal courts
as the 3 parties involved in said separation when
given this as a multiple choice. I don't think
that many of the folks who did not know the
3 branches watched the Roberts hearings this
past week.
1/3 of Americans think weapons of mass destruction
were found in Iraq.
In May 2004 as election season was heating up
39% of Americans thought that the economy was
in a recession.
Here one that will stop you: a poll was taken to
ask, "Do you vote on polls?" 31% said, "No."
I think that this is a combination of conceptual
artists and people who read "Catch-22" more than
once.
73% of blacks polled think OJ was innocent.
53% of whites think he was guilty. I wonder
where Michael Jackson stands on this.
ESPN had this one about baseball. Which
of these transgressions is the worst:
-
Betting on baseball games 19.5%
- Failing to hustle 21.0%
- Using steroids 28.7%
- Using cocaine 30.8%
I am so confused by this that I may need
a couple of lines to get me through the day.
