While New Orleans has gotten lots of attention, there are still many areas in MS that have not seen ANY help yet. With Gov Barbour being so anxious to avoid Fed criticism, his people are suffering. An example can be found at the Newsweek website:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9374821/site/newsweek/ and I heard/saw the same thing on CNN with Anderson and Aaron last night.
People are going to think that all the outcry, the replacing of "Brownie" and the Thursday night speech have gotten relief efforts moving and up to speed. NOT TRUE. Again, the poorest and weakest are getting lost in the rush...just as they were in the rush to evacuate. REad the Newsweek article, relief trucks are driving right through destroyed towns, without stopping........This relief effort is still FUBAR. Since Bush took responsibility, he needs to GET IT DONE. I'm calling and writing the whitehouse again today (my 4-5th time since Sept 1). We've got to keep the heat on, there are still people out there looking for water, food and shelter...the BASICS before we start celebrating the reopening of New Orleans. Please keep the pressure on, call or write the whitehouse or your own reps.
