I am feeling pretty proud of my hometown of Longmont, Colo. today.
The Times-Call was the first to break the story of the Thorne family, who managed to make it out of Jefferson Parish to stay with family in Longmont.
They have lost everything but what they were able to transport in six cars with 18 passengers- ranging in age from 11 months to 82 years. The local outpouring of
support has been overwhelming- from monetary donations to people leaving everything from clothing to mattresses at the Thorne family residence.
The family was fortunate to get out. Their homes, workplaces and schools are either underwater or being used as emergency command centers in the hurricane-ravaged region.
To help these folks, you can send donations to Brent Nunnally, A.G. Edwards, 1707 N. Main St., Longmont, CO 80501, 303-651-0100, or Lifebridge Christian Church, 10345 Ute Highway, Longmont, CO 80504, 303-776-2927. For more general donations, there is always the Red Cross or MercyCorps.
