Posted by cnn.com three minutes ago, Hurricane Rita overflowed the 9th ward Levees. There is no word yet as to the extend of the damage.
Yesterday, at a conference urging residents to flee the recently-hit area again, Gov. Blanco had this to cryptic quip to say1:
"Gov. Kathleen Blanco has urged residents in Louisiana's coastal parishes to evacuate northward immediately. For those who refused to leave, she alluded to their identification after their possible deaths: "Perhaps they should write their Social Security numbers on their arms with indelible ink."

I really would love to see any sort of justification from the administration that Global Warming isn't going to cause larger hurricanes.
I don't understand the administration here: (if I am wrong, correct me I don't know the offical stance) they argue that global warming is a natural phenomenon, and man had nothing to do with it.
It doesn't matter if we are coming out of an ice age or if carbon-based emissions are trapping solar heat because the net result is the same!
The little ice age snap2 around 1250 AD only had 1-2 degrees centigrade cooler. This was enough to disrupt crop cycles, have ice caps move southwards and generally cause the inhabitants of Europe to dress in the fur-coats and the wierd woolen clothes you now think of today. If you wore that on a given modern day, you'd swelter your butt off.
