People have said environmentalism is dead. Well, Congressman Pombo is creating so much legislation to hurt the environment that it will hopefully revive the environmental movement.
"One day after Congress Pombo's (R-CA) bill to raze the Endangered Species Act passed out of committee, Pombo released a draft bill to sell off America's National Parks and open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and America's coasts to dangerous drilling. The irresponsible legislation fails to decrease oil dependence or save consumers money, but instead focuses bizarrely on items like selling naming rights and advertising in National Parks and destroying millions of acres of the heritage Americans cherish. The draft bill comes on the heels of Congressman Tancredo's (R-CO) radical bill to sell off 15 percent of America's public land.

He is so evil. What is his fucking problem??? He want to get rid of the Endangered Species Act. The Endangered Species Act is a safety net for wildlife, plants and fish that are on the brink of extinction. The act hasn't significantly increased the population in some of the populations of animals it protects. Therefore, we get rid of it? Pombo would like to eliminate independent federal oversight of actions by federal agencies that may harm endangered species. This man makes no sense. Make the legislation stronger, not weaker!!! Has it occured to him that it make take TIME to rebuild animal populations humans brought to the brink of extinction???
Pombo wants to sell off national parks. Obviously, this isn't going to happen. I just do not like anyone putting these ideas out there like it is even a possibility!
More on Pombo:
Pombo's ten-gallon hat and winsome mustache belie a fiercely honed instinct to rule. In 2005, he redesigned House Resources Committee protocol so that all bills were funneled directly to him, rather than to subcommittee chairs, and he alone decides how--and whether--to parcel them out. No fan of wilderness designation, he also sent his committee members a stern memo suggesting that wilderness bills would not get past his desk unless they allowed for "mechanized access," which includes vehicles like logging trucks.

The Resources Committee oversees hundreds of millions of acres of public lands in the West as well as the Interior Department, Forest Service and many environmental laws. This is apalling. He is determined to promote development and making money at the expense of the environment. This man needs to be stopped. Every step of the way Pombo is finding ways to chip away at the protection of our planet.
Pombo is leading a crusade against wildlife protections. I hope it awakens the hearts and minds of Americans everywhere.
