So, Gov. Rick Perry has started
his own fund for donations for the victims of Hurricane Rita.
Who is doing the oversight on this fund?
Will this money be channeled to Perry friends and campaign donors?
How much of the money will actually go to the victims?
Let the donor beware. (More after the fold)
Of course, "Let the donor beware" is applicable for lots of organizations (here that, American Red Cross?). But given how much we Kossacks know about charity and how it works, I can't imagine anyone in their right mind giving to the Perry fund without some serious disclosures about percentages going directly to victims versus administrative costs.
There are plenty of groups at Charity Navigator to consider. Hey, and don't forget Oprah Winfrey's Angel Network.
And by the by, go buy Bon Jovi's new album, they gave a COOL MILLION, evidently the largest amount to that fund ever, for hurricane relief. Plus, Oprah foots all the administrative costs, so it all goes to the victims!
