Plenty of great photos and stories from Washington, D.C. and abound, but I missed the diaries about the protest in downtown L.A. yesterday. So I figured I'd grace the Kos community with an overall impression and some photos.
My photographer pal set the tone for the day when he observed, "...apparently I'm not the only one who didn't get a chance to shower last night." We arrived at the protestual grounds at approximately 11:40am, after a short delay due to the filming of the new Honda Civic hybrid commercial that utilized one of the cross streets on our way through downtown. Our first stop was the press check-in table where it was ridiculously easy to obtain a press sticker with absolutely no credentials whatsoever--which was great for us since we have no proof of, or actual, credibility. Making our way through the modest crowd to find the more interesting characters, slogans, banners, and signs proved to be fairly painless. The crowd was only 1200 or so strong at this point, and whether it was a lack of forethought or sleep we soon realized we were in for a major treat.
The protest soon grew 10,000 strong, and I'm sure a few more thousand showed before the parade train started rolling. We took our press capacity seriously and scoured the crowd for the most compelling and interesting stories/people. I think more can be said with the images my friend captured than anything I can write here in this diary. Hope you enjoy. http://www.forevercaptive.com/photosets.php?setid=128&PHPSESSID=7dfc06367602e23ba9b63bcd7e8fcc7a
