Dover PA churches, not to be outdone in the "fairness" department by local science classes, have come up with a statement that will be read before teaching Creationism.
"The Christian Religious Standards require worshippers to learn about the Bible's story of creation and eventually to take a memorization test of which creationism is a part.
"Because the Bible's story of creation is a story, it continues to be tested as new evidence is discovered. The story is not fact. Gaps in the story exist for which there is no evidence. A story is defined as a fictitious narrative shorter than a novel.
"The Theory of Evolution is an explanation of the origin of life that differs from the Biblical story. Reference books, called science books, are available for students who might be interested in gaining an understanding of Evolution and what a scientific theory involves.
"With respect to any story, and especially religious stories, students are encouraged to keep an open mind. The church leaves the discussion of the origins of life to individual worshippers and their families, and for the time being, also to science teachers. As a myth-driven institution, church teaching focuses upon preparing worshippers to achieve proficiency on memory-based regurgitations.
