Hadnt seen this diaried, but its all over the news here in
Georgia. Our governor, Republican Sonny Perdue, cancelled school across the state for today and tomorrow. He apparently came up with this idea to avoid a fuel shortage in the state, but it has mostly resulted in angry parents.
The move received praise from President Bush on Monday, but some angry parents from DeKalb County held a teach-in at the capitol with their own children as well as the children of friends who could not get off work
Here they are, sitting on the steps of the Capitol:
They had this cute little kid on the news and he said, "It's sad that we have to miss school because of the gas problems."
The front-runner for the Democratic nomination, Secretary of State Cathy Cox, also chimed in
Perdue's decision had ripple effects. It was immediately criticized by Secretary of State Cathy Cox, a Democratic gubernatorial candidate who called the governor "out of touch."
"Clearly, the Governor didn't consider the impact of this stunt on working Georgians. He must not realize how much Georgia families will have to spend for last-minute child care alternatives for their children on Monday and Tuesday. What was he thinking?" said the statement from Cox.
Out of touch is right. What affect this will have next year, I dont know, maybe none. But it certainly doesnt help the governor to be considered against working familes and education.
