The diary
Kossacks, I could use your help was just a terrific illustration to me that we're behind on this kind of stuff. Could we think of as many sound bites from our own side so easily?
A
comment I made earlier:
The sound bites don't even have to be TRUE, they just have to be SIMPLE and REPEATED.
"The Republicans just want the rich to get richer."
"The Republicans are out to screw the little guy."
"They care more about Iraq than America."
You just make sweeping, simple claims that would take 1,500 pages to examine properly ("Kerry is a flip-flopper"), so that any engagement on the topic is so complicated that it only keeps the statement around longer.
Why do we have such an easy time thinking of dittohead phrases? Because they do excel at coming up with this crap. I would like to see us do the reverse. Pithy statements that people on the street, TV, whatever can use to flummox the Republicans. No Kerryesque "Well, if you look at the juxtaposition of the regulations on blah blah blah..."
Let's go - give me some more of these!
