As of this one moment, the left is kicking the right's ass in the California blogosphere.
Look at these two blogrolls.
their's...

ours...

On the flip: why we rule.
Ours is
just plain better.
For one thing, we win on raw numbers. We have a broader array of voices, and having browsed both now, ours has much higher quality. I got lost in ours last night, there were just endless unfolding links of good.
And, we win on usability: the column on our page updates dynamically based on who has posted last. Our design is fucking incredible - James Home (jameshome.com) is the best designer on the planet right now as far as I'm concerned. That's not based on my personal opinion; it's based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback we're getting. My wife pulled the whole blogroll together, all 130 of them. (130!) She is just amazing.
We win across pretty much any axis you want to think of. We're going to win the war of ideas, people. I'm not talking smack, I'm observing reality. It's going to take some doing, but we are going to get there.
I'm listening to dj earworm's We Need a Filthy War, and it has a whole new meaning for me tonight. I'd always read it as a cry of protest, but there's another layer of meaning in the way he put this track together.
My wife and I and the president of the org have been almost purely volunteering for for the past year, trying to get this thing off the ground. Convincing donors to spend money on state stuff while the national situation is so broken has been just brutal. But we're building it and bringing it anyway. It feels damn good to bring the filthy war sometimes.
