In confirming what the SurveyUSA poll and others have shown, a clear majority of Americans are NOT happy with the federal response.
September 4th Rasmussen poll
September 4, 2005--Just 28% of Americans give say that the federal government has done a good or an excellent job responding to Hurricane Katrina. Another 25% say the government has done a fair job while 45% say poor.
Among the good/excellent crowd, 12% of Americans think the response was excellent, and 16% think it's been good.
More after the fold....
Here are some interesting things I've noticed.
Forty-seven percent (47%) have made a financial contribution to help the victims of the disaster. Seventy-eight percent (78%) have said a prayer for them.
ONLY 47% have made a contribution?? Over half this country has done squat for the victims financially? Not cool! Given that 78% have said a prayer for them, that means at least 31% of Americans said a prayer for them, but wouldn't open up their pocketbooks. For shame.
Eighty-five percent (85%) say that the "disaster in New Orleans and surrounding areas [will] have a major impact on the U.S. economy. Consumer confidence has fallen to its lowest level in more than two years.
Most people are realizing the stark reality of how this is going to hit them right in the wallet, and hard. I've seen a graph showing a definite correlation between higher gas prices and lower Bush approval ratings. (Speaking of which, it's at 45% today for the second straight day in a row.)
What may be the most significant result of all, though, is this.
Even among Republicans, there are significant doubts about the federal response to Katrina. Just 47% of those in President Bush's party say the federal response has been good or excellent. Fifty-one percent say fair or poor.
Yeah, 47% of Republicans are of the nutty variety. They'll go down with the U.S.S. Bush no matter what, come hell or high water. But to now have a majority of even Republicans think the response is fair at best... well, that seems to show even Republicans cannot cover their eyes and ears anymore to the disgrace the Bush administration has become. If anyone has premium membership there, I'd like to see what percent said fair and what percent said poor among Republicans, just to see the actual level of frustration among them.
And finally, I'm not sure what to make of this. Perhaps Americans are starting to come together, regardless of politics?
In terms of supporting the victims with financial contribution and/or prayer, there is little partisan difference.
